Devil Z endured, however, and took control of Decepticon Tera-Kura Co. by using his brainwashing powers to buy up all their stocks. While forcing the Decepticons to work under harsh conditions for his profit, he learned that a trailer reminiscent of Ginrai's transtector had appeared in the Legends Universe and sent the Decepticon Headmasters to destroy it immediately. His fears came to pass when Ginrai showed up and claimed the transtector, which he used to send the Decepticons packing despite Devil Z powering them up with Devil Power. Bonus Edition Vol. 35 Devil Z was outraged when one of his workers, Soundwave , left the company, and didn't take well to Megatron warning him that using fear to control his subordinates was doomed to fail. He wired Megatron into the Galvatron transtector and used it to attack the "traitor", but was driven off after Soundwave and Blaster cut Megatron loose and blasted Devil Z with the harmony . Bonus Edition Vol. 36

Zarak subsequently took command of the Decepticons, lying and claiming that he knew where Galvatron was, and that he had been appointed to lead. Zarak then had the Decepticons acquire an Earth satellite, the Solar One, which could harness solar energy, and used it to direct the sun's energy to a small world he had enslaved in a dark nebula off in space, where he was having a massive Transtector constructed for himself. With the Transtector now powered up by the solar energy, Zarak initiated a plan of his own, scheming to blow up Mars and harness the plasma energy released. To stop the Autobots, Zarak boarded his Transtector and travelled to Mars, where combined with it to battle Fortress Maximus, proclaiming that he was no longer Zarak - now, he was Scorponok (renamed MegaZarak in Japan).

When it seemed as though the Autobots had finally been joined by the final Godmaster, a young man named Clouder , Ginrai welcomed him into their ranks with open arms. Metalhawk, however, proved to be less trusting, and soon exposed Clouder as a Decepticon spy. Unfortunately, this was not enough to stop the plan the Decepticons had put in motion; while Ginrai and the Godmasters were occupied battling Buster and Hydra in a nearby city, the Autobot base was crippled by Clouder's sabotage and attacked by the rest of the Decepticons en masse. Secret Orders! Destroy the Autobot Base!! Ginrai was unable to prevent the destruction of the base, but was approached by Clouder in the aftermath. Clouder had been left to die in the base by the other Decepticons, and now wanted to work with the Autobots, which Ginrai permitted. Disaster! The Autobot Base Explodes
